For this month’s Client Spotlight, we are featuring Mike Blackmer from Archway Roofing. Archway Roofing is a residential and commercial roofing company founded on the belief that homeowners deserve an honest and professional evaluation of their roofing needs. The staff at Archway Roofing were all born and raised in Nashville and have more than a half-century of combined construction experience. As members of the community, they understand how important a solid roof is for protecting Middle Tennesseans’ and their home.
Here’s more with Mike Blackmer:
Tell us about Archway Roofing. How did it get started?
Mike: Archway Roofing was created six years ago when I decided to leave the home building business. Residential construction was something I began as a teenager. Forty years later, I saw a need to provide an honest and professional evaluation of customer roofing needs. Most people don’t know what to do when they suspect their roof has been compromised. I felt like a company such as Archway Roofing would be a good aid for them. Although Archway Roofing mainly helps with storm damage, we perform normal re-roofs too. Archway Roofing is a licensed general contractor with the State of Tennessee, which is very important. Most people don’t know that most work on their home that exceeds $25,000 must be done by a licensed contractor.
Tell us about the Archway Team and your core values.
Mike: Archway Roofing is currently comprised of a team consisting of myself (Managing Partner), Alex House (VP of Sales) and Andrew House (Director of Business Development). Archway Roofing uses four highly qualified sub crews to ensure product quality is at its best. With more than 50 years of construction experience, Archway Roofing strives daily to set the standard to inform and perform to the best of our ability. We maintain an attitude of unrivaled customer care and reputation.
Share the importance of roof inspections when buying or selling.
Mike: For home sellers and buyers, an inspection by a qualified “roofer” can be very important. For a buyer, home inspectors rarely perform a qualified inspection of the roof. It’s almost impossible to make an assessment from the ground or on a ladder at the gutter level. A qualified inspection is made by actually going over the roof. For a seller, it is a selling point that the roof is in good condition. It is peace of mind that the property disclosure form they signed is correct and hopefully avoid future conflicts with the new buyer.
Tell us about your free roof inspections.
Mike: We’ve found that most people do not know the color of their roof much less if they have roof damage. By offering free inspections, someone with a roof leak, missing shingles or a roof that went through a pretty strong storm can now get qualified advice with Archway Roofing.
What’s the best advice you would give someone about taking risk and following a dream?
Mike: Taking a risk and going into a new business can be a bit nerve-racking. But six years ago, I decided to make a change. I feel like if you work hard, accept nothing but quality work, and most importantly be honest, you have a really good chance to succeed.
